Inserting a Code
Okay, I've got the code, but now what? Well, you have to put it in via the Headers/Footers page. First, you must go to your admin panel. After that, click on the "Headers and Footers" link under the "Customize Your Forum" category. Then, you must select which part of your forum you want to modify.
Usually, a code will tell you where to put it. If the code affects more than the main pages (any page that isn't a board or in a board), and you want it on more than one board, it would go in your global headers or footers. If you just want it on the main pages, it would go in your main header or footer. If you want the code to affect one board, it would have to go in that board's header or footer.
Generally, the code goes in the header if it affects anything above the forum navigation (i.e.: Home :: Links :: More Links). If the code affects anything below or including the navigation, it generally goes in the footers.
Editing a Code
Some codes allow you to customize them by modifying a variable or several variables. This segment briefly describes how to edit these codes.
Usually, the code creator will tell you which variables to edit and how to edit them, either with a paragraph below or above the code, or a comment inside of the code. Let's take a look at a variable://Width of your forum
var fwidth = "700";
The underlined segment is the only part you should edit. You would, obviously, change 700 to the width that you want your forum to be. Seems simple, right? There are also these things, called arrays. Arrays are variables with multiple levels to them. Anyways, let's take a look at one and see how we would edit it://List of banners
var banners = [
"URL of banner 1",
"URL of banner 2"
];
You would simple edit the underlined pieces of the array. Notice how after the first level of the array, there is a comma, but after the second level, there isn't? On the last level of an array there should never be a comma, but on all of the others, the commas are necessary. There are other types of variables that some coders will want you to edit, but they'll most likely be described in the respective thread. If you ever need any help, please post in that thread or in the Code Support board and ask for help.
Also, say you want to use a quote ( ' ) or double-quote ( " ) in a variable. To use these, you must put a backslash (\) in front of the character to escape it.
Externally Hosted Codes
Some codes are "externally hosted". That means that the code is saved somewhere else and loaded with a shorter script that goes on your forum. While this method can make things simpler and easier on the eyes, it can be exploited. The coder could change the seemingly harmless code to a malicious script that could even delete your forum! So be careful. A script like this might look like:<script src="URLOFTHECODE.com/CODE.js">or
/* some comments here
maybe a copyright.. */
</script><script type="text/javascript">
/* maybe a copyright.. */
document.write('<script src="URLOFTHECODE.com/CODE.js"><\/script>');
</script>
One way to ensure that this code won't be modified would be to host the code yourself. All you would have to do is copy the part of the script that points to the JS file (the underlined bit), and open that page in your browser. Then save that page to your computer (CTRL+S in Firefox, just press the save button in Internet Explorer). Then, you would have to upload that script to a free host. There are several free hosts out there, such as ripway.com or wimg.co.uk. Then you would change the underlined portion to the new URL of the script you uploaded.

So, if you've read this thread, chances are you are, or will, use a code from our database. If you do, please link back to us by putting our minibanner in your affiliate table (if you have one)! While this is not necessary, we would greatly appreciate the nice gesture! Our minibanner is:
and our affiliate code (for HTML affiliate tables) is
